Delhi Man Warns Against Uber Scam After Being Duped by Fake Screenshot

Passenger Shares Experience to Warn Others About Fraudulent Practices

Delhi: A recent incident involving a Delhi man falling victim to a fraudulent Uber driver has sparked concerns among passengers, highlighting the need for vigilance when using ride-hailing services.

The victim, who shared his experience widely on social media platform Reddit, recounted how he was charged almost double the fare for a ride from IGI Airport to his home, with the driver presenting a fake screenshot as justification.

Upon reaching his destination, the driver demanded ₹648, citing wait charges despite the absence of traffic during the trip. While initially hesitant, the passenger paid the amount to avoid confrontation late at night but took a photo of the driver’s phone screen displaying the payment details before leaving.

Upon closer inspection the next day, the passenger discovered discrepancies in the screenshot, including misspelled names and two Uber app icons, leading him to realize that he had been deceived by the driver. After reporting the incident to Uber customer care, he received a partial refund, confirming his suspicions of foul play.

The victim shared his ordeal to warn others, emphasizing the importance of paying only the amount shown on the app and remaining cautious of potential scams, including fake screenshots.

His story resonated with many users who recounted similar experiences, with some advising to use only online payment methods like UPI to avoid such scams.

The incident serves as a stark reminder for passengers to stay vigilant, verify payment details, and question any discrepancies, particularly when dealing with unfamiliar drivers or encountering unusual fare demands.
