GMDA Unveils Ambitious Plan: 11 New Foot Overbridges to Boost Pedestrian Safety in Delhi and Gurugram

In response to the rising number of road accidents involving pedestrians in Gurugram, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has announced a comprehensive plan to construct 11 new foot overbridges (FOBs) across the city. This initiative aims to significantly enhance pedestrian safety, ensuring secure road crossings and minimizing accidents that have been a persistent concern.

FOBs in Three Phases:

The construction of these 11 FOBs will be executed in three distinct phases, strategically targeting high-risk areas for pedestrian accidents.

  • Phase One: FOBs near Sheetla Mata Mandir, Sector-14 Market on MG Road, and Maruti Industrial Area on Old Delhi Road.
  • Phase Two: FOBs in front of Sahara Mall on MG Road, near Medanta Hospital in Sector-39, and in front of the Millennium City Center Metro Station near Fortis Hospital exit gate.
  • Phase Three: Four FOBs on Sohna Elevated Road, addressing the absence of pedestrian provisions on the Mumbai Elevated Highway and planning FOBs on Golf Course Road at key locations including Bristol Chowk, Chakkarpur Village, Paras Down Town, and near the Time Center.

GMDA’s Vision for Pedestrian Safety:

The GMDA’s proactive approach underscores a commitment to prioritizing pedestrian safety, an aspect often neglected in urban planning. By strategically placing FOBs in areas prone to accidents, the initiative aims to create safer and more accessible pathways for pedestrians, ultimately reducing the risk of accidents and promoting efficient road-crossing practices.

This ambitious plan aligns with the broader vision of creating pedestrian-friendly urban spaces, fostering a cityscape that accommodates the diverse needs of its residents.
