Major Road Closure and Metro Schedule Changes in Delhi Ahead of IPL Match

Delhi residents are advised to plan their travel accordingly as a major road closure is scheduled today due to an IPL cricket match taking place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The match, set to commence at 7 PM and conclude by 11:30 PM, will feature a showdown between the Delhi Capitals and the Gujarat Titans. To accommodate the event, traffic disruptions are expected in the vicinity of the stadium from 5 PM to 8 PM, prompting the Delhi Traffic Police to issue a traffic advisory.

Traffic Advisory:

  • Affected Areas: Commuters are urged to avoid Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, from Delhi Gate to ITO Chowk, and Jawaharlal Nehru Marg, from Rajghat to Delhi Gate, during the specified hours.
  • Vehicle Restrictions: Certain stretches along the affected routes will be restricted to pedestrian traffic only, ensuring the safety of attendees and minimizing congestion.

Metro Service Extension:

Recognizing the impact of the IPL match on commuter traffic, Delhi Metro authorities have decided to extend the operational hours of trains on specific dates. On April 24th, May 7th, and May 14th, trains at all terminal stations will run up to 35 minutes longer than usual, facilitating the transportation of spectators to and from the stadium.

Parking and Transportation Facilities:

To streamline access to the stadium and accommodate the influx of visitors, free Park and Ride facilities will be available at the following locations:

  • Mata Sundri Road
  • Rajghat Power House Road
  • Velodrome Road
  • Pragati Maidan Metro Station

These measures aim to alleviate traffic congestion and ensure the safety and convenience of attendees during IPL match days. By implementing proactive strategies, authorities strive to uphold the seamless flow of traffic while enhancing the overall experience for cricket enthusiasts and commuters alike.
