Delhi Unveils Groundbreaking OTS Scheme: A Water Bill Revolution

In a remarkable move addressing the longstanding issue of exorbitant water bills, the Kejriwal-led Delhi government has unveiled a game-changing initiative. The newly introduced One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme, announced on Friday, aims to provide relief to the city’s residents, revolutionizing the way water bills are managed.

Key Highlights of the OTS Scheme:

  1. Proposal Presentation: The comprehensive proposal for the OTS scheme is slated to be presented at a cabinet meeting on February 14th. Once approved, approximately 40% of the 10 lakh water consumers in Delhi are expected to benefit from this groundbreaking initiative.
  2. Scheme Benefits: The OTS scheme offers a lifeline to consumers who have been grappling with incorrect water bills. It allows them to pay a recalculated bill in a single installment, rectifying any discrepancies in previous billing. This initiative not only corrects billing errors but also enhances the management of water consumption records.
  3. Implementation Timeline: Consumers will have a four-month window to embrace the advantages of the OTS scheme by submitting recalculated bills. The scheme mandates the installation of functional water meters, ensuring that even those with faulty meters can be accommodated within the Delhi Jal Board’s (DJB) purview.

Minister’s Statement: Urban Development Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to resolving citizens’ water bill concerns. The introduction of the OTS scheme reflects the government’s dedication to streamlining the billing process, ensuring accurate water consumption tracking through the mandatory installation of water meters.
