Noida Metro Expansion: Revised Route Adds 11 Stations to Knowledge Park-5 Line

The proposed metro line connecting Noida to Greater Noida West’s Knowledge Park-5 is set for a substantial upgrade, featuring an expansion from the initially planned nine stations to a total of eleven. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has diligently prepared and submitted the Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC), marking a pivotal step in enhancing connectivity in the National Capital Region (NCR).

Background: The current operational Aqua Line metro, managed by NMRC, spans from Sector-51 to the Greater Noida Depot. Plans for expanding this line to Greater Noida West have been in progress for the past five to six years.

Initially, the DPR envisioned a route starting from Sector-51, passing through Sector-72 Baba Balak Nath Temple along the 130-meter road to Greater Noida. However, a connectivity issue prompted the route’s revision, leading to the incorporation of new directives from NMRC and Noida Authority.

New Route and Features: Under the revised plan, the metro will now proceed towards Sector-61, connecting with the Blue Line’s Sector-61 station via a platform link. The extended route will traverse Phase Three Kotwali, Sector-71 Kailash Hospital, and exit near Sector-121 Cleo County, rejoining the old route near Parthala Signature Bridge. This modification has increased the project length from 14.958 kilometers to 17.435 kilometers, with a corresponding cost increase of approximately ₹794 crores, bringing the total to ₹2991 crores.

Unified Operation Plan: The comprehensive development plan now encompasses the entire route, allowing for simultaneous metro operation along the extended path. Initially planned in two phases, from Sector-51 to Sector-2 of Greater Noida West, the revised strategy aims to enhance connectivity and streamline transportation for residents and commuters in the region.

Proposed Stations:

  1. Sector-61 Station
  2. Another station (To be determined)
  3. Sector-122
  4. Sector-123
  5. Sector-4 Greater Noida West
  6. Sector-12 Ecotech
  7. Sector-2 Greater Noida West
  8. Sector-3 Greater Noida West
  9. Sector-10 Greater Noida West
  10. Sector-12 Greater Noida West
  11. Knowledge Park-5 Greater Noida

Dr. Lokesh M, Managing Director of NMRC, confirmed the receipt of the DPR for the metro line from Noida to Greater Noida West, noting that it is currently under review before being presented for approval at the upcoming board meeting.
