Pune Swelters as Shivaji Nagar Records 38-Degree Celsius High

Pune Heatwave Alert

Scorching Temperatures Grip the City, Prompting Health Advisory from PMC

Pune residents are grappling with intense heat as temperatures continue to soar, with Shivajinagar registering a blistering 38.8 degrees Celsius, marking the highest temperature of the season so far. Lavale, another area in Pune, witnessed even hotter conditions, touching 40 degrees Celsius. Unfortunately, relief from the heatwave seems unlikely, as the forecast predicts above-normal temperatures persisting for the next week.

The sweltering heat has made daily life challenging for Pune’s residents, with both daytime and nighttime temperatures on the rise. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) issued a health advisory urging citizens to take precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier issued warnings about the heatwave conditions.

According to IMD data, Pune’s temperatures are currently 2.7 degrees Celsius higher than the normal average temperature for this time of year. Areas like Pashan, Lohegaon, and Magarpatta have also experienced exceptionally high temperatures ranging from 39.2 to 39.6 degrees Celsius, with Lavale reaching a scorching 40.9 degrees Celsius.

The discomfort extends into the nighttime, with Shivajinagar recording a minimum temperature of 18.6 degrees Celsius, which is 2.1 degrees above normal. Other areas in Pune have reported nighttime temperatures ranging from 18 to 26 degrees Celsius, with Pashan recording a relatively cooler 20 degrees Celsius.

The rising relative humidity exacerbates the situation, reaching 58% at night, a 3% increase from the previous day, further adding to the discomfort felt by residents.

Elsewhere in Maharashtra, Akola recorded the state’s highest temperature at 41.5 degrees Celsius, while Pune’s lowest temperature dipped to 18.6 degrees Celsius. Buldhana saw a significant temperature rise, reaching 40.2 degrees Celsius, which is 5.1 degrees above normal.
