Scorching Temperatures Grip Pune, IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Surrounding Districts

Pune, Maharashtra – March 29, 2024: As the summer season tightens its hold on Pune, residents are experiencing sweltering temperatures, with the mercury soaring to alarming heights. The Pune-Koregaon section has emerged as the epicenter of the heatwave, registering a scorching maximum temperature of 40.9 degrees Celsius. Close behind, the Pune-Shirur area recorded temperatures of 40.8 degrees Celsius, while Pune-NDA experienced highs of 39.1 degrees Celsius. The Pune-Pashan and Pune-Shivajinagar regions also faced intense heat, with maximum temperatures reaching 39.1 degrees Celsius, marking March 29 as one of the hottest days in recent memory.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for the next 48 hours in several districts, including Dhule, Jalgaon, Nandurbar, Nasik, Sangli, Solapur, and others. While Pune remains partly cloudy, there is a slight chance of very light rain. Residents are advised to take precautions and stay safe.

According to IMD data, the mercury is expected to continue rising in the coming days, with maximum temperatures predicted to range between 40 and 39 degrees Celsius across all sections of Pune. The sky is forecasted to remain mainly clear, although there is a possibility of becoming partly cloudy towards the afternoon or evening on March 29 and March 30, before returning to clear conditions for the remainder of the week.

Health experts warn of significant health risks associated with the prolonged heatwave. Residents are urged to take necessary precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses, including staying hydrated, seeking shade during peak hours, and minimizing outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day.

Local authorities are also calling on residents to remain vigilant, particularly towards vulnerable individuals such as the elderly and children, who are more susceptible to heat-related ailments. Community support is crucial in ensuring the well-being of all residents during this challenging period.

As Pune braces for more scorching days ahead, residents are reminded to prioritize their health and safety amidst the relentless heatwave gripping the city.
