Former Bank Employee Turned Thief: Female Techie Arrested for Bengaluru Laptop Thefts

29-Year-Old B.Tech Graduate’s Scheme Unraveled After String of Theft Incidents Across the City

In a surprising revelation, Bengaluru police have apprehended a 29-year-old B.Tech graduate, Jassi Agarwal, for her involvement in a series of laptop thefts from paying guest accommodations (PGs) and software firms across the city. The arrest follows a detailed investigation aided by CCTV footage and digital evidence, revealing the cunning modus operandi of the accused.

City Police Commissioner B Dayananda disclosed that Agarwal, a former employee of a private bank in Noida, abandoned her job approximately a year ago and transitioned to a full-time thief, driven by dissatisfaction with her salary and unsuccessful job hunts in Bengaluru. Employing her insider knowledge and skills, Agarwal meticulously targeted her fellow PG residents, capitalizing on moments of absence to execute her thefts swiftly.

The arrest on March 26 culminated in the recovery of 24 laptops valued at ₹10 lakh from Agarwal’s possession, shedding light on the extent of her illicit activities. Her modus operandi involved relocating to her hometown in Noida after each theft, where she sold the stolen laptops before returning to Bengaluru to repeat the cycle in different PG accommodations.

The City Police Commissioner emphasized that Agarwal is wanted in four cases registered in Koramangala, Indira Nagar, and HAL police stations, underscoring the severity and scope of her criminal activities.

This case underscores the importance of heightened vigilance and security measures in shared living spaces, where individuals like Agarwal may exploit their living situations and professional backgrounds to perpetrate theft. As investigations progress, authorities urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly to prevent similar incidents in the future.
