PMC’s Transparency: Site Visit to Inspect Compensatory Tree Plantation at Hadapsar Industrial Estate

On March 23, 2024, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to conduct a site visit to evaluate the progress of tree transplantation and compensatory plantation efforts at the Hadapsar Industrial Estate.

The decision to organize the site visit comes after persistent demands from concerned citizens regarding the status of trees affected by development projects, particularly in the vicinity of Sadhu Vaswani Bridge. Rekha Joshi, a member of Mula Mutha Nadi Darshan, expressed disappointment over the lack of clarity from the PMC regarding tree replantation efforts. Despite assurances, there is a growing concern over the delay in fulfilling promises made regarding compensatory measures.

Ameet Singh, an economist and founder of Puneसंवाद Group, emphasized the importance of transparency in the PMC’s actions. The site visit aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the tree replantation process, addressing doubts and ensuring accountability.

The visit follows demands raised on February 13 for the disclosure of information regarding transplanted trees and the status of compensatory plantation promised for trees felled in Koregaon Park. With 81 trees removed, the PMC pledged to plant 2265 compensatory trees, prompting citizens to seek clarity on the progress of this initiative.

Scheduled for March 23, 2024, at 9:00 AM, the site visit will take place at the Hadapsar Industrial Estate. Citizens are urged to participate actively, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in environmental conservation efforts undertaken by the PMC.
