PUNE: Roads have been dug up at various places for Pune Metro and 24×7 water supply project and other development works. Hence, the condition of the roads is miserable and despite complaints, no action has been taken so far. Despite instructions that potholes should be filled up, nothing has happened so far. The spokesperson of BJP’s state region, Sandeep Khardekar, has submitted a memorandum to Addl Municipal Commissioner Vikas Dhakne.

The memorandum states that due to digging of the road carried out due to the 24×7 water supply project, Pune Metro and other development works, the roads are in a terrible state and the common man and their vehicles are bearing the brunt. Despite complaints at all levels, the situation remains unchanged. The civic administration has issued instructions that potholes should be filled up and action will be taken if it is not done. We expect that the civic administration would take some action.

“The Shailesh Bridge near Alankar police station, Shakti 98 Chowk, the road going towards Girija Shankar Vihar, the road opposite K52 and Sahwas Society, the road behind the telephone exchange at Nal Stop Chowk have sunk and are full of slush. Many two-wheeler riders have fallen off their vehicles. Many others have received injuries on their neck, waist and spine due to the jerks experienced while driving on the roads,” the memorandum states.

“Although the 24×7 water supply project is important for the city, please note that the company carrying out the work does not repair the roads. Hence, the 24×7 water supply project has become a headache for Puneites. The roads are dug up for laying storm water lines, drainage lines, electricity cables by PMC and MSEDCL and also by private companies for laying cables. However, the roads are not restored to their earlier condition after the work is over and this is badly affecting Puneites. While filling up potholes, because the tar is not of the required temperature, the gravel spreads across the road. Hence, everybody feels that potholes are preferable to unscientific methods of filling up potholes. Hence, you should deploy the civic body’s mechanism on a war footing and provide some relief to Puneites. It has not rained very heavily in Pune so far. What will happen in such a scenario, we don’t know. We hope you will take suitable action,” states Sandeep Khardekar in the memorandum.
