Congress Candidate Ravindra Dhangekar Unveils Pune Manifesto: Prioritizing Local Issues

In a bid to address the unique challenges faced by Pune constituents, Congress candidate Ravindra Dhangekar has unveiled a separate manifesto tailored specifically to tackle local issues. While the Indian National Congress had previously released a national-level manifesto, Dhangekar’s initiative underscores the party’s commitment to addressing grassroots concerns and delivering tangible solutions to Pune residents.

The supplementary manifesto, unveiled on Monday, outlines Dhangekar’s pledges to enhance public transportation, healthcare, and public safety within the Pune constituency. Presenting a list of promises aimed at fostering city-wide development, Dhangekar articulates his vision for Pune’s progress over the next five years, contingent upon his election by voters.

Key Focus Areas of the Manifesto

Dhangekar’s manifesto places a strong emphasis on bolstering public transportation infrastructure, ensuring the safety of senior citizens, addressing water scarcity issues, and tackling other pressing concerns affecting Pune residents. Central to his agenda is the expansion of the metro network and the addition of e-buses to the PMPML fleet, aimed at improving connectivity and easing commuter woes.

Notably, while the manifesto addresses critical issues such as public transportation and senior citizen safety, it remains silent on contentious projects like the Balbharati-Paud Phata Road and the riverfront development (RFD) project.

Balbharati-Paud Phata Road and RFD Project: Status and Controversy

The Balbharati-Paud Phata Road project, spanning 1.8 kilometers, has been a subject of contention since its inception due to concerns raised by locals and environmentalists. Opposition to the project stems from fears of environmental degradation and loss of green cover, particularly as the road traverses the rocky terrain of Vetal Tekdi.

Similarly, the RFD project, aimed at revitalizing a 44-kilometer stretch of rivers, has encountered hurdles, including delays in clearance by the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) due to non-compliance with stipulated conditions. Despite initial progress, the project’s implementation has been hampered by regulatory setbacks, necessitating adherence to environmental norms for clearance.

Commitment to Municipal Infrastructure and Public Safety

During the manifesto launch, Dhangekar reiterated his commitment to addressing rising crime rates and ensuring the city’s safety and security. Drawing attention to recent incidents, such as the drug racket bust, Dhangekar underscored the need for robust law enforcement measures and proactive governance.

Looking Ahead

As Pune constituents gear up for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on May 13th, Dhangekar’s manifesto serves as a roadmap for addressing local challenges and fostering inclusive development. With a focus on sustainable growth and community welfare, Dhangekar aims to garner support for his vision of a prosperous and resilient Pune.

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has expressed solidarity with Dhangekar’s efforts, underscoring the importance of grassroots initiatives in driving meaningful change. As Pune prepares to chart its course for the future, the manifesto represents a crucial step towards realizing the aspirations of its diverse populace.
