Pimpri Chinchwad Traffic Police Imposes Rs 1500 Fine for Driving in BRTS Lanes

Pune’s Pimpri Chinchwad traffic police are cracking down on motorists who illegally drive in Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) lanes by imposing a hefty fine of Rs 1500 for violators.

The decision to introduce this strict penalty comes as various types of vehicles, including both light and heavy vehicles, have been observed using BRTS lanes in the city. Such unauthorized usage of these lanes not only leads to a higher rate of accidents but also causes significant damage to infrastructure, including steel railings, bus stops, and the BRTS roads themselves. These incidents have not only resulted in a loss of money but also pose serious risks to lives.

In response to these concerns, the Pimpri Chinchwad City Traffic Police has implemented new regulations to maintain the safety and efficiency of traffic in the city. These regulations stipulate that only BRTS buses are permitted to use the BRT routes, with exceptions made for emergency services like fire brigades, police vehicles, and ambulances.

These new rules, aimed at deterring unauthorized vehicles from using BRTS lanes, were put into effect on September 1, 2023. To avoid penalties and promote road safety, residents are encouraged to utilize alternative routes for their daily commutes instead of illegally driving in BRTS lanes.
