Maval Lok Sabha Election 2024: Notice Issued to Candidates for Violating Expense Rules

The Maval Lok Sabha Election 2024 has encountered a recent snag as three candidates have been served notices by Electoral Returning Officer Deepak Singla for breaching election expenditure regulations. The notices highlight discrepancies and non-compliance with expenditure rules, signaling a potential legal tussle amidst the electoral process.

Notice Issued: Electoral Returning Officer Deepak Singla has raised concerns regarding the daily expenses of one candidate during expense checks, while two candidates, Yashwant Vithal Pawar and Rahim Mainudin Syed, have failed to provide detailed expenditure records during inspections. As per electoral regulations, candidates are obligated to submit expenditure registers and certificates for verification within a specified timeframe. Failure to adhere to these requirements has prompted the issuance of notices to the candidates in question.

Consequences of Non-Compliance: Failure to submit expenditure details within the stipulated time could lead to legal ramifications under Section 77 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. The electoral authorities have set a deadline for candidates to rectify their non-compliance, with 48 hours granted for the submission of required disclosures. Failure to comply may result in the cancellation of permissions granted for various campaign activities, as per Section 171(1) of the IPC.

Examination Process: The examination of accounts was conducted under the supervision of Election Expenditure Inspector Sudhanshu Rai, overseen by Election Expenditure Inspection Head Ashwini Musale and Assistant Savita Nalavde. Candidates were expected to appear for examination on May 7 at the Election Expenditure Control Room, Maval Lok Sabha Constituency.

Additional Notice for Discrepancies: Candidate Suhas Manohar Rane has received a separate notice regarding discrepancies in his election expenditure. It was observed that expenses were incurred from his personal bank account rather than a designated election expense account, contrary to Election Commission directives.
