Pune, August 14, 2023: The residents living along Dehu-Alandi Road are facing a pressing crisis as their water supply continues to be contaminated, leading to urgent calls for immediate action to address the dire situation.
The president of the Chikhali-Moshi-Pimpri Chinchwad Housing Society Federation, Sanjeevan Sangale, has highlighted the distressing issue affecting multiple societies in the vicinity. Societies including Abhang Vishwa Phase-1, Abhang Vishwa Phase-2, Mira Orchid, Bhagirathi Gloria, and Gaware Angan have been severely impacted by the intermingling of drainage water with the drinking water supply. This contamination has resulted in a surge of health problems among residents, particularly affecting vulnerable groups such as children, women, and the elderly. Symptoms such as diarrhea and vomiting have become distressingly common due to the compromised water quality.
The root cause of this health predicament lies in the unfortunate coincidence of the drainage line running alongside the water conduit of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. Despite residents reporting the matter to the drainage department, no substantial steps have been taken to rectify the situation, leaving approximately 4000 residents in the vicinity exposed to health risks.
The Chikhali-Moshi-Pimpri Chinchwad Housing Society Federation has urgently called for effective measures to be undertaken by the municipal authorities to address the water contamination issue. The immediate priority is to prevent drainage water from infiltrating the drinking water supply. In the interim, the Federation has requested the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation to provide clean water to the affected societies through water tankers, ensuring the health and well-being of the local population.
The affected societies along Dehu-Alandi Road in Chikhali have been grappling with this distressing situation for the past fifteen days. If prompt and decisive action is not taken by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation to ensure a clean and safe water supply, the contaminated water will be presented to the officials of the Municipal Corporation’s water supply department for further assessment. The urgency of the situation necessitates immediate intervention to safeguard the health and lives of the residents.
