PMC Initiates Soil Testing for Vishrantwadi Flyover Project: A Step Towards Traffic Relief in Pune

Traffic congestion has long plagued the Vishrantwadi area of Pune, causing inconvenience to residents and commuters alike. In a bid to address this issue, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has embarked on the much-anticipated Vishrantwadi flyover and grade separator project. With the commencement of soil testing, the project takes its first crucial step towards alleviating traffic woes at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Chowk.

The Importance of Soil Testing: Before laying the foundation for the flyover, thorough soil testing is essential to ensure the stability and durability of the structure. A senior PMC official emphasized the significance of this preliminary phase, stating that soil testing helps evaluate the suitability of the soil for the proposed infrastructure. This meticulous approach underscores the PMC’s commitment to delivering a robust and long-lasting solution to the area’s traffic problems.

A Comprehensive Approach: The Vishrantwadi flyover project, estimated at ₹63 crore, aims not only to ease vehicular congestion but also to improve pedestrian mobility. As part of the project’s scope, existing pedestrian bridges at Pratik Nagar Chowk and Shivajinagar will be relocated to accommodate new pathways for pedestrians. This holistic approach demonstrates the PMC’s dedication to enhancing both vehicular and pedestrian traffic flow in the vicinity.

Addressing Long-standing Concerns: Vishrantwadi, a bustling locality with heavy traffic flow towards Alandi Road and Dhanori-Lohegaon-Charholi, has struggled with congestion issues due to limited road infrastructure. While demand persists for additional roads, the PMC’s current proposal focuses on establishing a separate route for Alandi Road and constructing a flyover en route to the airport. Despite past concerns voiced by local representatives, the PMC remains steadfast in its commitment to addressing pressing traffic issues in the area.

Project Specifications: The Vishrantwadi flyover, spanning an impressive 630.12 meters in length and measuring 7 meters in width, will consist of 11 pillars. Segments extending towards Alandi and Lohegaon sides will measure 197.12 meters and 142 meters, respectively. Additionally, the grade separator component of the project, measuring 595 meters in length and seven meters in width, will offer separate routes for Alandi, Lohegaon, and Yerawada.
