Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President, Nana Patole, has called upon the Modi government to conduct a comprehensive caste-based census across the nation. Speaking at a social justice rally organized by the party’s district unit, Patole criticized the BJP and the Modi government for exploiting the Bahujan Samaj for electoral gains without upholding their rightful entitlements.
Patole stressed the necessity of conducting a caste-based census to ensure justice for these marginalized communities. He highlighted that during the previous UPA government’s tenure, a detailed data set of the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community was compiled. However, he claimed that the subsequent Modi government withheld this information from the public.
Referencing the Justice Renke Committee’s nationwide study aimed at addressing the concerns of backward classes, Patole revealed that the committee’s findings were submitted to the UPA government. Regrettably, he alleged that the Modi government established a sub-committee to address these matters, thereby denying justice to the Bahujan Samaj and demonstrating a lack of intent to extend benefits to the backward classes.
Patole firmly stated that the Congress party stands as the only vehicle capable of delivering justice to the Bahujan Samaj. He recounted his proposal, approved during his tenure as the Speaker of the state Assembly, for a caste-based census, subsequently endorsed by various other states across the nation.
Moreover, Patole acknowledged the efforts of Congress’ national leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi, who are committed to pursuing justice for all castes. Through these initiatives, the Congress party seeks to ensure equity and fairness for marginalized communities, emphasizing the importance of a caste-based census in achieving these goals.
