Woman from Pune raped in front of husband over loan default, accused arrested by police

Pune: A horrifying incident has come to light in Pune where a 34-year-old woman from Bopkhel in Hadapsar area of Pune was allegedly raped at gunpoint in the presence of her husband over loan default. The Hadapsar police have arrested the accused and paraded him in the rain for the inhuman crime. The parade by the police to the accused is currently becoming the talk in the city.

The arrested accused has been identified as Imitiaz Hashim Sheikh (47) a resident of Mhada Colony in Hadapsar.

Ravindra Shelake, police inspector, Hadapsar police station said, ” The accused Imtiaz Shaikh, a spice seller, had given a loan of Rs 40,000 to the victim’s husband in Hadapsar in February 2023. However, when the couple could not return the money the accused threatened to kill her husband. Shaikh started giving abusive threats to the victim’s husband. Later in February he called both of them to Suraksha Nagar at an isolated place where he lived. There he threatened to kill her husband by making her sit in front of him with a knife. The accused had raped his wife in front of her husband due to a dispute over non-return of money. A few days later, the accused again demanded sexual pleasure from her for the same reason. But this time the victim refused. The accused then tried to defame both the victim and her husband by sending the video clip of the rape to to her husband and circulating the video on social media.”

Shelake added, ” Even after threats from the accused, the victim finally gathered courage and approached the Hadapsar police station and lodged a formal complaint on Tuesday. Soon after the complaint we came into action understanding the seriousness of the crime and tracked down the accused and arrested him. We produced him in the Pune Court which has sent him to police custody for two days. We are further investigating the case to find out whether the accused had trapped any other victims and exploited them in a similar manner.”

The incident has sent shockwaves in the city and the Punekar are demanding strict action against the accused.
