Exploring Frontiers: XVIII International Workshop on High Energy and Special Materials

Pashan, 2nd November 2023: The High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL), a Pune-based DRDO laboratory, in collaboration with Tomsk State University and the Federal Research & Production Centre of Russia, organized the XVIII International Workshop on High Energy and Special Materials. The event took place at the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam DRDO Golden Jubilee Auditorium in Pashan, Pune.

The inauguration of the International Workshop on High Energy and Special Materials (HEMs-2023) saw the presence of Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, along with Dr. (Mrs.) Chandrika Kaushik OS & DG PCI, Dr. Boris Pevchenko, DG, JSC, FR&PC Russia, and Dr. AP Dash, OS and Director of HEMRL.

The conference featured invited lectures from distinguished experts from Germany, Russia, DRDO (India), and Indian industries. It drew attendees from the student community, industry representatives, and research organizations from across the nation and around the world.

Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D & Chairman DRDO, emphasized the importance of identifying future technologies and charting a roadmap for the development of high-energy and special materials. He called for the conference attendees to collaborate on research projects for future technologies and stressed the need for partnerships involving private industry, academia, foreign collaborators, and DRDO.

Dr. Boris Pevchenko, DG, JSC, FR&PC Russia, highlighted the conference’s role in exploring cutting-edge technologies, innovative aspects of high-energy materials, and initiatives for collaborative development.

Dr. AP Dash, OS and Director of HEMRL, encouraged young scientists, academia, and industry partners to engage in the pursuit of defense-related technologies and research. He expressed hope that the conference would contribute to shaping a roadmap in line with the workshop’s theme, “Emerging Trends in High Energy and Special Materials.”

The conference provided valuable insights to students, researchers, and industry partners regarding recent trends in high-explosive technologies. It also sparked interest among young minds in the field of defense technologies.
