Customer Care Scam: Pune Woman Reports Rs 2 Lakh Loss, Accused Booked

Pune: In a shocking incident a woman from Sinhagad Road in Pune lost Rs 2 lakh when she called the customer care number from Google for help. In this regard a complaint has been registered in thr Parvati police station on Wednesday, August 2 .

The police officer from Parvati police station said, “A woman aged 26 a resident of Sinhagad Road lodged a complaint with us. According to the complainant she was working on her computer and due to technical failure at that time she got the customer care number from Google. When woman called on that number the caller pretended to be speaking from customer care and said that they need Rs 10 to clear the doubt. The accused gained the trust of the complainant and the complainant agreed to pay the amount.”

The officer further added, ” The accused took the OTP from the complainant and withdrew Rs 5000. Later the accused linked his mobile number to the account and using the private information transferred a total of Rs 1.95 lakh from the woman’s account. We have registered a cheating case against the unknown accused and further investigating the case.”
