Pune: The police commissioner warned a few days ago of stinging measures against criminals in the coming time if the criminal activities do not stop in the city. As a part of this effort, the Pune Police Commissioner arrested a notorious gangster from the Katraj area under the MPDA Act yesterday. This marks the 74th action of the police commissioner under MPDA since assuming the charge.
The arrested accused is identified as Imran Jani Mohammed Shaikh, against whom multiple cases of serious crimes like attempted murder, extortion, injury, rioting, and possession of illegal weapons such as machetes, knives, etc. have been registered at the local police station. Police informed that in the last five years, five serious crimes have been registered against the accused.
The accused is an inveterate criminal and has been continuously troubling the local residents with his menacing activities. Along with his accomplices, he had created a terror of his gang in the area, disturbing public order. Also, the citizens did not dare to complain openly against him due to their fear of losing their lives and property.
Therefore, a proposal to take action against Imran Sheikh under the MPDA Act was submitted to Pune City Police Commissioner Ritesh Kumar. After verifying the proposals and documents received, the Commissioner of Police has ordered Imran Shaikh to be lodged in Nagpur Central Jail under the MPDA Act for one year.
The operation was carried out by a team of Bharti Vidyapeeth Police Station Senior Police Inspector Vinayak Gaikwad, Crime Branch, PCB Senior Police Inspector Chandrakant Bedre, police officers, and enforcers.
