Pune Metro Awaits Green Light for Ruby Hall–Ramwadi Stretch, Commuters Urge Swift Inauguration

Pune’s eagerly anticipated Metro service on the Ruby Hall–Ramwadi stretch is facing a delay as the state government’s approval is still pending, despite the Central Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) commissioner granting conditional approval for passenger service. The completion of work on this crucial stretch has sparked requests from commuters to initiate passenger services at the earliest convenience.

A student from Cusrow Wadia College, situated along the Ramwadi to Ruby Hall Clinic stretch, expressed excitement about the potential opening of the stretch. With traffic congestion escalating due to the Sadhu Vaswani railway overbridge demolition, there is a pressing need to commence metro services along this section. A Ramwadi resident, eagerly anticipating the start of metro services, highlighted the critical timing of the inauguration.

However, some residents are perplexed by Pune Metro’s decision to delay the inauguration until officials or politicians have the opportunity to attend. Concerns have been raised about the necessity of political leaders’ involvement in the inaugural event, emphasizing the urgency of starting services for the benefit of the people.

Nitin Bhujbal, representing Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray’s Shiv Sena, emphasized that since the metro project utilized public funds, there is no need to rush into an official inauguration. The Shiv Sena leader insists that Pune Metro should promptly commence services from Ruby Hall to Ramwadi for the convenience of the public.

A senior Maha-Metro official confirmed that the Ruby Hall to Ramwadi metro line extension has received conditional approval from CMRS, with ongoing efforts to address identified issues. Additionally, a proposal for the stretch’s inauguration has been submitted to the state government, awaiting their nod for the eagerly anticipated commencement of services.
