Legal Consequences: Pune Pub Owners Face Charges After Fatal Accident

In a recent development, authorities have taken swift action against the owners and managers of two pubs in Pune, namely Blak pub in Marriott Suites and Cozie in Mundhwa, following a tragic accident that claimed the lives of two individuals in Kalyaninagar. The incident, which involved the serving of alcohol to a minor, has prompted legal action under various sections of the law.

The Incident

The Pune Police Crime Branch initiated action against the establishments following an unfortunate incident where a minor, along with his friends, was served alcohol at one of the pubs. Tragically, this led to a fatal accident in Kalyaninagar, resulting in the loss of two lives. The authorities swiftly responded by registering two First Information Reports (FIRs) pertaining to the incident.

Owners and staff members of both Blak and Cozie establishments have been apprehended by law enforcement. Among those arrested are Prahlad Bhutda, the owner of Hotel Cozie, Sachin Katkar, the manager, Sandeep Sangle, manager of Blak, and Jayesh Bonkar. Additionally, Vishal Agarwal, owner of Brahma Realty and Infrastructure, has also been detained in connection with the incident.

Charges Filed

The individuals involved face charges under various sections of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988 and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2015. These include Sections 3, 5, and 199A of the Motor Vehicles Act, and Sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act. Assistant Police Inspector Vishwanath Mahadev Todkari has formally lodged a complaint regarding the matter.

Investigative Process

The incident, which occurred around 2:30 am on Sunday, involved a grey-colored Porsche striking two individuals near Landmark Society on Kalyaninagar Airport Road. Both victims, Anish Dudiya and Ashwini Kosta, succumbed to their injuries at the scene. A case has been registered at Yerawada Police Station, with Assistant Commissioner of Police Aarti Bansode leading the investigation.

Ongoing Investigations

Simultaneously, the Crime Branch is overseeing the case against Vishal Agarwal and Prahlad Bhutda. The owners, along with relevant staff members, have been promptly arrested by the Crime Branch, signaling the authorities’ commitment to thorough investigation and legal accountability.
