Pune CID’s Bharari Squad Cracks the Annabhau Sathe Mahamandal Scam, Arrests Key Accused in Rs 367 Crore Fraud

Pune, 24th June 2023: The Criminal Investigation Department Maharashtra State (CID) has made a significant breakthrough in the Annabhau Sathe Development Corporation scam case by apprehending a key accused who had been on the run for the past 8 years. Kamlakar Takwala, the accused, was arrested by the Bharari team of Pune CID from Sangamner. The arrest was made using advanced technology, specifically tracking the accused through the fast tag of his vehicle.

Kamlakar Rama Takwale, a 40-year-old resident of Sarafnagar, Paithan, District Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, had been evading arrest by changing his name and residing in various locations in Pune, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, and Ahmednagar districts over the past 8 years. The CID’s Bharari team successfully located and apprehended him from Rajur Police Station.

The Annabhau Sathe Development Corporation scam involved collusion between Ramesh Nagnath Kadam, the then President of the Sahitya Ratna Demokratir Annabhau Sathe Development Corporation and MLA, Shravan Kisan Bawane, the then Managing Director of the Corporation, and several other officers and employees. This fraudulent group betrayed the government and committed a fraud of Rs 367 crore.

The State Crime Investigation Department is currently investigating seven cases related to this scam, with the first case being registered at Dahisar Police Station. A charge sheet has been filed against 26 accused in this case, including the main accused, Ramesh Kadam, who has been in jail for the past 8 years.

Kamlakar Rama Takwale, who had been declared absconding by the court, remained elusive since the filing of the case. The Bharari team received information that Takwale was attempting to change his identity and reside in Ahmednagar district. After four months of meticulous searching in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Pune, and Ahmednagar areas, the Bharari team received a tip-off that Takwale was using an M four-wheeler and changing his name while staying in Akole and Sangamner talukas of Ahmednagar district.

Using the fast tag information of the vehicle, the Bharari team successfully traced and arrested Kamlakar Rama Takwale from Hotel Ahmed in Sangamner. The arrest was made in accordance with legal procedures.
