Pune Extortion Saga: Four Accused Nabbed for Kidnapping and Ransom Demand

Pune: In a harrowing incident, the Anti Extortion Cell of Pune City Police has apprehended four individuals from the Uttamnagar area and successfully rescued two women who had been kidnapped by the accused with extortion demands. The alarming episode came to light when one of the victim’s sons reached out to the police seeking assistance in this dire situation.

The victims, identified as Minakshi Pokhare and Manisha Pawar, had been physically assaulted and forcibly confined within a house by the abductors in the Uttamnagar area. The accused had demanded a ransom of Rs 17 lakh from the complainant to secure the release of his mother and the other victim. Upon receiving the critical information, the police acted promptly to trace the whereabouts of the victims.

The four individuals involved in the abduction have been identified as Babulal Laxan Mohol (45), Amar Nandkumar Mohite (39), Pradip Prabhakar Nalawade (38), and Akshay Maruti Phad (24). Notably, Mohol has a history of criminal activities, with ten different cases previously registered against him, while Mohite and Nalawade have five and two cases, respectively, for various offenses in their criminal records. A case related to this incident is currently being registered at the Uttamnagar police station.

According to the police investigation, the accused individuals had intended to secure shops at the Pune Railway Station for their business ventures. The women had allegedly promised to assist them in this endeavor. However, when the women were unable to fulfill this promise, the accused claimed to have suffered a loss of Rs 6 lakh and subsequently resorted to revenge by kidnapping the victims and demanding extortion money.
