Pune Braces for Heavy Rainfall: IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Ghat Areas

Pune, 24th June 2023: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Pune has issued a warning for heavy rainfall in Pune and its surrounding areas.

According to Anupam Kashyapi, the head of weather forecasting at IMD Pune, the rainfall has been steadily increasing over the past nine hours and is expected to persist. As a result, the forecast for today has been upgraded to overcast conditions with light to moderate rainfall in isolated areas.

Kashyapi has also issued a yellow alert for the nearby ghat areas, advising residents to exercise caution and be prepared for the next 5-6 days. The alert emphasizes the importance of being vigilant while traveling on the roads, as the heavy rainfall may lead to reduced visibility and slippery conditions. Drivers are urged to drive slowly and be mindful of potholes that may have formed due to the downpour.

The IMD has advised against venturing into the ghat areas in the coming days, as these regions are expected to experience isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall. Additionally, moderately strong winds with speeds ranging from 30-35 kmph are forecasted in the ghat areas.

Citizens are encouraged to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and pay attention to impact-based warnings and advisories. While enjoying the monsoon season, it is crucial to prioritize safety and take necessary precautions during adverse weather conditions.

The city of Pune and its residents are advised to remain cautious and prepared as more rain is expected tonight, with the possibility of 1-2 intense spells of rainfall. It is essential to maintain road safety and adhere to traffic rules during such conditions, as highlighted by the IMD.
