PMC’s Swift Response to Water Woes: Spot Visits and Booster Pumps Aim to Boost Pune’s Water Pressure

Water Supply

In a rapid response to concerns over low water pressure in certain areas, the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) water supply department has initiated spot visits to implement immediate and long-term solutions for enhancing water supply.

The issue of low-pressure water supply has garnered attention in recent meetings with the Pune divisional commissioner. Residents from various areas, including Balewadi, Bavdhan, Mohammadwadi, Ambegaon, Kalyaninagar, Pune station area, and Undri, have expressed grievances about inadequate, erratic, and unequal water supply.

After conducting spot visits, teams from the water supply department have identified potential improvements in water availability by adjusting existing supply schedules. The installation of booster pumps is under consideration for specific areas to enhance the water supply. Moreover, issues with pipelines within housing societies have been identified as hindrances to the supply. The PMC has urged housing societies to inspect their water pipeline networks, according to a senior official from the water supply department.

Deputy engineers and their teams have been directed to visit affected locations over the next two weeks, with areas in Ambegaon, Shivajinagar, and Pune station already covered. Future spot visits are planned for Balewadi, Mohammadwadi, and other impacted localities.

Residents of Bavdhan and Balewadi have reported inadequate water supply, causing disruptions in household chores. Civic activists are calling for the administration to address leakages in the water distribution network to enhance overall supply.

Experts attribute the low-pressure supply to three main factors, including leakages in the water distribution network. Areas situated at the tail-end of the distribution network and localities on higher gradients tend to experience lower water pressure. The PMC’s measures and spot visits aim to tackle these issues and improve water supply across the affected regions.
