Yerawada Residents Unite Against Rising Illegal Activities, Seek Police Intervention

Pune – The residents of Yerawada, a bustling ward in Pune, have come together to voice their concerns about the escalating tide of illegal activities that have gripped their community. Former Deputy Mayor Dr Siddhartha Dhende, along with numerous citizens, took a decisive step by filing a formal complaint with the Yerawada Police on November 23.

According to information disclosed by Dr Dhende, the citizens residing in Nagpur Chawl, Panchsheel Nagar, Chandrama Nagar, Jadhav Nagar, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, Patbandhare Vasahat, Ahilya Society, Karuna Society, and Ambedkar Colony have reported a surge in illegal activities. These include illicit liquor consumption and sale, gambling, matka (a form of illegal lottery), drug-related offenses, and more.

The residents, who had silently borne witness to these unlawful practices, decided to approach the authorities owing to the deteriorating situation. Dr Dhende emphasized that fear had paralyzed the community, preventing them from seeking help earlier. “An entire generation is being ruined because so many children and youth are addicted to such things. Also, there are frequent disputes at the local level due to which women and elders feel frightened,” Dr Dhende stated.

In light of the growing menace, Dr Dhende, on behalf of the residents, has urged the police to take swift and stringent action to curb these activities. Balkrushna Kadam, a representative of the Yerawada Police, confirmed that they had received the complaint from Dr Siddharth Dhende and the concerned citizens approximately 5 to 6 days ago. He assured the public that strict measures are being implemented to crack down on the miscreants responsible for these activities.
