Amidst growing discontent over the new agricultural laws, more than 200 farmers’ unions are set to embark on a massive “Dilli Chalo” march from Punjab, challenging the central government’s reforms. The Delhi Police have responded by imposing Section 144, restricting gatherings, protests, and marches within the city for a month.
In preparation for the march, access to key border points, including Ghazipur, Singhu, and Tikri, has been restricted, with police deploying barriers and experienced officers to maintain law and order. Despite concerns over stifling peaceful protests, farmers’ unions remain resolute in their fight for rights, calling for a guaranteed minimum support price (MSP) for their crops.
A crucial meeting between the farmers’ leaders and the government is scheduled today at 5 pm to discuss their demands. With the specter of Section 144 looming, the outcome of these talks will determine the trajectory of the farmers’ protests and the potential for resolution or further escalation.
