Heatwave Warning for UP, Bihar, Delhi; Rainfall Predicted in Several States: IMD’s Latest Forecast

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave warning for several states across northwest and east India over the next five days. The weather office also predicts heavy rainfall in West Bengal, Sikkim, and northeastern states during the next four to five days, while conditions favor the further advance of the southwest monsoon into parts of Odisha, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and the northwest Bay of Bengal over the next three to four days.

Heatwave Alerts

From June 12 to 16, parts of Uttar Pradesh are expected to experience heatwave to severe heatwave conditions. Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand will face similar conditions from June 12 to 14.

The IMD has also forecast heatwave conditions in Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi for the next five days. Northeast Madhya Pradesh and northwest Rajasthan will experience heatwaves from June 12 to 14, while northeast Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, the Jammu division, and Odisha will face heatwaves on June 12 and 13.

Rainfall Forecast

The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Sikkim over the next seven days.

“Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh during the next five days. Isolated heavy rainfall is expected over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from June 14 to 16. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim may see isolated extremely heavy rainfall on June 12 and 13, while Assam and Meghalaya could experience the same on June 15,” according to the IMD’s latest bulletin.

Light to moderate rainfall is also predicted in Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh over the next five days. Heavy rainfall is expected in Odisha on June 12, 13, and 16.

Additional Rainfall Predictions

Goa, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry are also expected to receive rainfall in the coming days. “Isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Kerala on June 12 and 16; interior Karnataka on June 12 and 13; Telangana, Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada on June 12; and Coastal Karnataka from June 12 to 16,” the IMD stated.
