Driving Forward: The Transformation of Najafgarh Road to Six Lanes

The planned expansion of Najafgarh Road from Delhi to Gurugram marks a significant stride in enhancing connectivity and easing traffic congestion in the National Capital Region (NCR). With the road set to be upgraded to six lanes, commuters can expect a smoother and faster travel experience between these key areas.

Currently, the segment of Najafgarh Road within Gurugram boasts six lanes, while its counterpart in Delhi remains limited to just two lanes. This stark contrast creates a bottleneck, leading to traffic snarls and longer commute times. To address this issue, the Delhi government has proposed widening its portion of the road to match Gurugram’s six-lane standard.

The estimated cost of this expansion project is approximately ₹48.71 crores, with an anticipated requirement of around 25 acres of land. However, the specifics regarding land acquisition are still under discussion, raising questions about who will handle the process and bear the associated costs.

To facilitate coordinated planning and execution, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has conducted a survey of the Delhi segment of Najafgarh Road. The findings have been shared with the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB), ensuring alignment in the project’s implementation.

The benefits of this expansion are manifold. Firstly, it will alleviate traffic congestion by eliminating the bottleneck at the Delhi border, enabling smoother traffic flow. Additionally, improved connectivity between Gurugram and Delhi will streamline daily commutes for residents and workers. Moreover, enhanced road infrastructure can stimulate economic growth by attracting businesses and improving access to markets.

Furthermore, the wider road will contribute to safety improvements, reducing the risk of accidents caused by abrupt lane merging and heavy traffic. Overall, the expansion of Najafgarh Road to six lanes promises to elevate connectivity and travel experience in the NCR, setting a new standard for intra-city transportation infrastructure.
