PMC Reverses Decision on Alternate-Day Water Supply in Kharadi Area Following Public Outcry

Pune Municipal Corporation

Kharadi, 21st June 2023: In response to public outcry and protests, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to reverse its earlier decision to implement an alternate-day water supply in the Kharadi area. The plan, which aimed to address water scarcity issues, faced strong opposition from residents, leading to the PMC’s reconsideration.

The initial decision to implement the alternate-day water supply in Kharadi, along with several other areas, caused significant disruptions and unrest among the affected residents. Complaints and grievances regarding the plan’s implementation were raised by citizens and supported by political parties.

Acknowledging the concerns raised by the residents, Anirudh Pavaskar, the Head of the PMC’s Water Supply Department, stated, “The decision to implement the one-day water supply in the Kharadi area was an experimental measure. However, considering the feedback and objections from the citizens, we have decided to withdraw this plan. Normal water supply will resume in the area from Friday onwards.”

The PMC’s decision to reverse the alternate-day water supply plan reflects its responsiveness to the needs and demands of the residents. The public’s protests demonstrated the importance of open dialogue and the role of citizen participation in decision-making processes.

Water scarcity is a pressing issue in many parts of the city, and it requires sustainable and long-term solutions. The PMC will continue to work towards addressing water supply challenges while taking into account the concerns and interests of the residents.

With the withdrawal of the alternate-day water supply plan in Kharadi, residents can expect regular water supply to resume as per the existing schedule. The PMC will focus on ensuring an uninterrupted and equitable distribution of water to meet the needs of the community.
