Empowering Women: Key State Government Schemes on International Women’s Day 2024

International Women’s Day, celebrated on March 8, serves as a poignant reminder of the ongoing efforts to uplift and empower women globally. In India, several state governments have proactively rolled out schemes addressing the diverse challenges faced by women, spanning education, healthcare, entrepreneurship, and social welfare. As we commemorate International Women’s Day in 2024, let’s delve into the key initiatives implemented by various states to empower and uplift women.

Delhi – Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana:

  • Under this program introduced by the Delhi government, women above 18 years of age are eligible for ₹1,000 monetary assistance every month. This support is extended to residents of Delhi holding a Voter ID card in the national capital.

Uttar Pradesh – Mission Shakti:

  • Launched in phases, Mission Shakti includes the establishment of Mission Shakti Kaksha in all 59,000 Gram Panchayat Bhawans, the formation of one lakh women self-help groups, and the inclusion of 1.73 lakh new beneficiaries in the destitute women pension scheme.

Uttar Pradesh – Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangla Yojana:

  • This cash transfer scheme aims to ensure social security for the girl child, providing financial assistance to promote their well-being.

Uttar Pradesh – Nirbhaya-Ek Pahal Program:

  • Connecting 75,000 women with state banks, this initiative facilitates access to loans at lower interest rates and availing benefits of state subsidies.

Maharashtra – Manjhi Kanya Bhagyashree Scheme:

  • The Maharashtra government offers financial assistance under this scheme, providing ₹50,000 for a period of 18 years for one girl child and ₹25,000 each for two girl children.

Bihar – Kanya Utthan Yojana:

  • This scheme encourages females in the state to pursue higher education by providing compensation of approximately ₹50,000 until they complete their graduation.

Tamil Nadu – Amma Two-Wheeler Scheme:

  • The Tamil Nadu government supports working women through a 50% subsidy capped at ₹25,000, facilitating their purchase of two-wheelers.
