Pune : Commercial Establishments Facing Increased Taxation for Side and Front Margin Violations

Pune Municipal Corporation

Pune, 22nd June 2023: The Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) Municipal Taxation and Tax Collection Department recently undertook inspections on 25 commercial properties located in Narhe, Ambegaon Khurd, Ambegaon Budruk, Vadgaon Budruk, and Vadgaon Khurd. The purpose of these inspections was to identify properties with unauthorized rooftop additions and encroachments on side and front margins. In light of the violations discovered, revised taxation measures were imposed, and efforts were made to recover outstanding dues.

Property tax constitutes a significant portion of the municipal corporation’s revenue. The Taxation and Tax Collection Department is actively working towards achieving the income targets outlined in this fiscal year’s budget. In line with this objective, a comprehensive inspection drive was conducted on Tuesday under the guidance of Ajit Deshmukh, the Head of the Taxation and Tax Collection Department. The inspection revealed numerous properties with unauthorized constructions, including rooftop additions, encroachments on side and front margins. Furthermore, actions were initiated to address outstanding dues, resulting in the sealing of certain properties.

The inspection primarily focused on untaxed properties belonging to establishments such as hotels, which were found to have encroachments on side margins, unauthorized usage of terraces, and unlicensed godowns. Additionally, industrial properties subject to taxation were also scrutinized. In certain cases, triple property tax penalties were imposed. Ajit Deshmukh emphasized that similar inspections would be carried out across the city in the upcoming days, with an intensified campaign specifically targeting unauthorized constructions, uncollected property taxation, and the collection of outstanding dues.

The PMC’s proactive approach to tackling unauthorized constructions and enforcing property tax compliance is commendable. By identifying properties with violations, the municipality ensures fairness in taxation and upholds the importance of adhering to building regulations. Increased taxation on commercial establishments with side and front margin encroachments will serve as a deterrent, discouraging property owners from engaging in such unauthorized activities. Moreover, the recovery of outstanding dues will contribute to the overall financial stability of the municipality, enabling it to provide better services and infrastructure for its residents.

Property owners and commercial establishments in Pune are advised to review their properties for any unauthorized constructions and encroachments, ensuring compliance with building regulations. By doing so, they not only avoid penalties and increased taxation but also contribute to the growth and development of the city. The PMC’s continued efforts to promote responsible property ownership and taxation compliance will undoubtedly lead to a more vibrant and well-regulated commercial landscape in Pune.
