PUNE: An incident has come to light wherein a girl was cheated of ₹6.66 lakh by a youth with whom she got acquainted on a matrimonial website. The Faraskhana police have registered an FIR against a youth based in Nashik.
The accused has been identified as Abhijit Prakash Bhalerao (28), a resident of Nashik. A girl has lodged a complaint at the Faraskhana police station. The complainant and the accused Bhalerao got acquainted on a matrimonial website. Bhalerao promised to marry the girl. Later, he took money from the girl and her mother by giving various excuses.
Bhalerao used to give excuses like his cousin was involved in an accident, his sister was admitted in a hospital etc and took ₹6.66 lakh from the girl and her mother on different occasions. Since Bhalerao got the money transferred to his father and sister’s accounts in the online mode, the girl became suspicious and asked Bhalerao to return the money. He returned some money to the girl and avoided returning the remaining amount. The girl lodged a complaint with the police when she realised that she had been cheated. API Shete is probing the case.
