Pune: Constructor Ended His Life Following Moneylender’s Constant Harassment; Complaint Against Accused for Instigating Suicide

Pune Crime News

Pune: A few days ago, a 41-year-old constructor living in the Gardenia society in Vadgaon Sheri committed suicide after being depressed about his inability to pay a mounting loan. In this regard, his father, Dattatray Sahebrao Katore, 69, filed a complaint against a moneylender at Chandan Nagar Police Station for instigating his son to commit suicide.

The deceased constructor is identified as Shashikant Dattatreya Katore. According to the police, Katore was a building contractor by profession and had a construction business in the name of Sadguru Infra in the Vadgaon Shri area. Katore was planning to open a new construction site, and for this, he was in need of an urgent loan.

Recognising the need of Katore, the accused, Vinay Vishnupant Kale, 38, offered him a loan at a substantial 5 percent interest rate. As per the plan, Katore took the loan from Kale, but due to some technical and licencing issues, his site opening plan got delayed.

After that, the accused consistently started pressuring Katore over the repayment of his loan. Weary of constant trouble from Kale, Katore gave the initial few instalments of the loan through his family savings. However, the accused charged him a compound interest on the loan and started threatening him against the non-payment of the loan.

The accused threatened to lodge a police complaint against the accused if he did not pay his loan within the stipulated time. Getting frustrated by this constant mental torture and by the loss he faced because of the delay at the construction site, Katore decided to end his life. Accordingly, he committed suicide in his own house.

Based on the police complaint filed by the deceased Shashikant Katore’s father, Chandan Nagar police booked the accused moneylender under IPC 306, 504, and 506 and are investigating further into this matter under Assistant Police Inspector Nilesh Ghorpade.
