Online Deception Hits Hadapsar: Youth Duped of ₹17.5 Lakhs in Cyber Scam

In yet another instance of the growing menace of deceptive online advertisements, a young man from Hadapsar has fallen victim to cyber thieves, losing ₹17.5 lakhs in a fraudulent scheme promising lucrative returns. The surge in such incidents has prompted the victim to file a complaint at the Kondhwa police station, triggering an investigation into the cybercrime.

The scam unfolded when the victim received enticing messages on his mobile number, promising substantial earnings for simple online tasks related to sharing information about restaurants in Pune on social media. The initial task, which earned him a mere ₹150, served as a confidence-building measure for the scammers. Subsequently, the fraudsters exploited this trust, persuading the young man to invest in more lucrative online tasks. Over time, they fraudulently siphoned ₹17,70,326 from the victim, promptly severing contact after each transaction.

Realizing the extent of the deceit, the duped youth reported the incident to the police, leading to an ongoing investigation led by Police Inspector Bhosle into this cybercrime.
