PUNE: Some incidents in Pune which have taken place over the past few months raise a question whether the city which is known as an education hub, is becoming a crime capital. You may not agree with this. However, Maharashtra has been shaken by some incidents which have taken place in Pune. Incidents of rapes are being reported, murders are happening due to soured affairs, vehicles are being vandalised and minors are found selling drugs. All this makes one wonder what is happening in Pune.
Incidents which have taken place in Pune
1) The sickle gang vandalised 50 vehicles in different areas (Sahakar Nagar & Warje Malwadi) on three consecutive days.
2) Darshana Pawar Murder Case: MPSC rank holder was killed and her body was found at the foothills of Rajgad fort which created a flutter. The accused has been identified as Rahul Handore.
3) Senior citizen ends life: A row over the volume of a speaker at an engagement ceremony led to a senior citizen’s death. The senior citizen, who was insulted, jumped into the river from the Bund Garden bridge and died by suicide. The senior citizen has been identified as Dnyaneshwar Salunkhe (70). Five people have been arrested in connection with the case.
4) Incidents of minors selling drugs have been reported in the city. The minors are selling drugs to earn money to fulfill their desires. In the last few months, drugs worth ₹7 crore have been seized by the police.
5) Woman kills husband with the help of girl’s lover: A shocking incident came to light when a woman killed her husband with the help of her daughter’s lover. The deceased was identified as Joy Lobo and the Pune Rural police have arrested his wife Sandra Lobo and her daughter’s lover Agnel Kasbe. The incident took place at Shikrapur in Pune district.
6) Youth forced to drink urine: Due to a dispute over dowry, a 21-year-old youth was assaulted, abused and forced to do a shameful act. The incident took place at Kati village in Indapur taluka. The youth was forced to drink urine and consume human faeces. An FIR has been registered against 11 people at the Indapur police station. The incident has sparked outrage in the state.
7) One sided love and threats to politicians: Since the last few days, threatening calls are being made to politicians and extortion is being demanded. The politicians include BJP MLA Mahesh Landge, Congress corporator Avinash Bagwe and MNS corporator Vasant More. A shocking fact has come to light in connection with these incidents. All threatening calls were made by a person. A man did this to teach a lesson to a girl who rejected his love. The youth was arrested for threatening Vasant More but after being released on bail, he continued to threaten politicians like Avinash Bagwe and Mahesh Landge. The youth has been arrested again.
8) Wanwadi Police Station: An autorickshaw driver tried to rape a girl and this incident has brought the issue of safety of girls to the fore.
