Bharati Vidyapeeth Police Apprehend Absconding Youth Involved in Dacoity Case

Pune: In a significant breakthrough, the Bharati Vidyapeeth police station has apprehended a youth who had been on the run for six months in connection with a dacoity case. The accused had previously fled the scene while his accomplices were captured. The incident involved the intrusion of a shop, where the owner and manager were verbally abused, and liquor bottles, glasses, and cold drink bottles were damaged by hurling stones. The culprits forcefully took away the cash from the counter. This incident occurred on May 24, 2023.

The apprehended individual has been identified as Ajay Panchal (23), a resident of Ambegaon Budruk. Ajay Panchal, along with his partners Tejas Wadekar, Sohail Asangi, Govind Lokhande, Sonya Kamble, and Amol Dhavre, forcibly entered a wine shop in Katraj. They not only abused the owner and the manager but also threatened the former, claiming to have been released from jail and demanding regular extortion payments. Ajay Panchal further vandalized liquor bottles, a TV, and other items before absconding with ₹10,000 from the shop’s counter.

While Sohail Modin Asangi, Amol Tanaji Dhavre, and Aditya alias Sonya Khandu Kamble were apprehended by the Bharati Vidyapeeth police earlier, Ajay Panchal remained at large. Authorities had been actively searching for him. However, acting on valuable information, policemen Abhijeet Jadhav and Vikram Sawant set up a trap and successfully arrested Ajay Panchal. The accused, who has a criminal record, faces charges of causing grievous bodily harm, as per an FIR registered against him at the Bharati Vidyapeeth police station.

The operation was conducted under the guidance and leadership of CP Retesh Kumaarr, Joint CP Sandeep Karnik, Addl CP Pravinkumar Patil, DCP Smartana Patil, ACP Narayan Shirgaonkar, Sr PI Vijay Kumbhar, PI Vijay Puranik, API Amol Rasal, API Sachin Dhamne, PSI Dhiraj Gupta, and a team of dedicated officers including Abhijeet Jadhav, Vikram Sawant, Shailesh Sathe, Chetan Gore, Nilesh Dhamdhere, Mangesh Pawar, Harshal Shinde, Avdhoot Jamdade, Sachin Sarpale, Sachin Gade, Dhanaji Dhotre, Nilesh Khairmode, Abhinay Chowdhary, Nitin Jadhav, and Rahul Tambe.
