A heart-stopping incident unfolded on the Pune-Bangalore Asian Highway, as an Ertiga car careened out of control, resulting in a harrowing accident that left five individuals injured. The tragic scene played out at the base of Khambatki Ghat in Khandala taluka, where the vehicle collided with two pedestrians before plunging into the Dhom-Balakwadi canal. In a testament to human compassion and swift intervention, local citizens and highway police joined forces to execute a heroic rescue operation, ensuring the survival of all passengers in the ill-fated car.
The victims of this ordeal include two Pune residents, Rahul Bhagyawant Ubale (25) and Avinash Bhagyawant Ubale (29), who had momentarily halted near the canal during their journey to Dafalpur (T.Jat). A sudden twist of fate saw an Ertiga car (Registration No. MH12 TY 1066) lose control, tragically striking Rahul Ubale before plunging into the waters of the canal. The entire incident unfolded before the eyes of Sripati Shrimant Shinde (42), Shrimant Shinde (70), Rajshree Shrimant Shinde (37), Sanket Shripati Shinde (13), and Sanskriti Shripati Shinde (8) – a courageous group of individuals hailing from Athani, Belgaum, temporarily present in Pune. Without a moment’s hesitation, these valiant souls leaped into action, rapidly rescuing the occupants of the submerged car.
Despite the incredible efforts of the rescuers, Rahul Ubale sustained critical injuries as a result of the accident. The injured individuals were swiftly transported to a medical facility for prompt attention. Presently, Rahul Ubale is undergoing advanced treatment at a private hospital in Pune. The remarkable response from the Assistant Police Inspector Harshad Galinde, Constable Manoj Gaikwad, Constable Vikas Kadam, and Vijay Bagal of the Bhujan Highway Police Station was pivotal in the unfolding of events. Their vigilant patrol of Khambatki Ghat led them to discover the submerged car in the Dhom-Balakwadi Canal, ultimately preventing a potentially tragic outcome. The local Khandala police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident.
