Pune’s Khadakwasla Cluster Dams Reach 89% Capacity, Boasting 16% More Water Than Previous Year

Pune, August 8th, 2023: Despite experiencing a recent spell of reduced rainfall, the quartet of dams catering to Pune’s water supply have impressively attained 89% of their storage capacity. Official records reveal that the cumulative water storage of the Khadakwasla, Panshet, Temghar, and Warasgaon dams stands at 89.14%, accounting for 25.98 TMC (Thousand Million Cubic feet) of water as of Tuesday. This marks a substantial increase from last year’s corresponding figure of 73.21% and 21.34 TMC of storage.

Among these reservoirs, the Khadakwasla Dam leads with a water storage level of 92.61%, holding 1.83 TMC. Panshet Dam follows closely, boasting a commendable 96.76% water level, which translates to 10.30 TMC of water. Meanwhile, Warasgaon Dam stands at 88.11%, maintaining a reservoir of 11.30 TMC, while the Temghar Dam currently stores water at 68.95%, amounting to 2.56 TMC.

The positive trend extends to the Pimpri Chinchwad area as well, with the Pawana Dam that serves the city reaching a substantial water storage capacity of 93.36%. In comparison, the dam was only 81.47% full on the same day last year.

According to official meteorological reports, Pune has experienced an above-average monsoon season this year, contributing to the healthy levels of water storage in the region’s reservoirs. The remarkable progress made in water accumulation highlights the efficient management of water resources and the vital role played by these dams in ensuring water availability for the city’s residents.

As the dams thrive despite recent weather fluctuations, the data underscores the significance of sustainable water management practices and the resilience of the region’s water supply infrastructure in the face of changing climatic conditions.
