Pune Police Enforces Restrictions Amid Kasba Peth Tensions, Imposes Section 144

Measures Implemented to Prevent Communal Discord and Maintain Law and Order

Pune News: In response to escalating tensions surrounding the unauthorized construction of Puneshwar Temple and Chhota Shaikh Salla Dargah in Kasba Peth, Pune Police has taken proactive measures to uphold peace and order. Joint Commissioner of Police Praveen Pawar has imposed Section 144 in designated areas, including Pawle Chowk to Kumbhar Ves Chowk.

The decision to implement Section 144 comes amidst concerns over potential disruptions during the ongoing elections and the need to prevent communal discord. The directive prohibits gatherings exceeding five individuals and religious practices in specified localities such as Bhoi Galli, Kagdipura, Kumbharwada, Aloknagar Society, and Aggarwal Talim, except for medical emergencies.

The police have identified the risk of external elements exploiting the situation to incite unrest or spread divisive messages through social media platforms. Therefore, strict regulations have been enforced to curb any actions that may threaten communal harmony or hurt religious sentiments.

These regulations include a ban on rumor-mongering, dissemination of offensive content on social media, and unauthorized public gatherings. Violations of these directives will be met with legal action under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code.

The objective behind these measures is to ensure the safety of residents and prevent any disturbances that could disrupt the peace in Kasba Peth. By taking preemptive action, the police aim to maintain communal harmony and uphold the rule of law in the area.
