PMC Reports Robust Tax Collection, Highlights Increasing Trend of Online Payments
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has recorded a significant surge in revenue through property tax collection, with an impressive total of ₹2,273 crore received for the fiscal year 2023-24. According to Madhav Jagtap, head of the property tax department, this revenue was generated from payments made by owners of 11.93 lakh properties within the city.
Of particular note is the remarkable increase in online tax payments, reflecting a growing trend towards digital transactions in Pune. A staggering 6.60 lakh taxpayers opted for online payment methods, contributing a substantial ₹1,179 crore to the PMC’s coffers. In contrast, 3.96 lakh taxpayers settled their dues in cash, amounting to ₹285.68 crore, while 1.36 lakh taxpayers opted for cheque payments, yielding ₹808.51 crore for the civic body.
Jagtap attributed the success of the tax collection drive to concerted efforts by the PMC to raise awareness among citizens regarding their tax obligations. Additionally, the corporation took decisive action to ensure compliance, seizing a total of 2,506 properties within PMC limits from delinquent taxpayers.
As Pune continues to witness growth and development, the PMC’s robust revenue collection underscores its commitment to efficient governance and fiscal responsibility. The increasing adoption of online payment platforms reflects a broader societal shift towards digitalization, facilitating convenient and transparent transactions for taxpayers.
