Pune Gram Panchayat Member Faces Legal Action for Destroying Rival’s Sarpanch Nomination

An unsettling incident unfolds in Hinjewadi as a gram panchayat member faces legal consequences for allegedly destroying a fellow member’s nomination form during the sarpanch election.

In a disturbing turn of events reported in Hinjewadi, a gram panchayat member stands accused of tearing apart the nomination form of another gram panchayat member vying for the position of sarpanch in the upcoming election. A formal complaint has been filed with the police by a Mandal Adhikari in connection with this incident.

As outlined in the complaint submitted to the authorities, the accused allegedly seized the nomination form of Ganesh Bansilal Jambhulkar, a fellow gram panchayat member, during the scrutiny process. Subsequently, the accused, while in possession of the nomination form, asserted objections against it and proceeded to tear it apart. Despite this act, Jambhulkar ultimately emerged as the victorious candidate in the Sarpanch election, according to officials.

It is worth noting that the villagers had collectively decided to grant each gram panchayat member an opportunity to serve as the sarpanch. This arrangement, initiated in 2021, allocated a three-month term to each member in rotation. Nevertheless, some villagers raised objections, contending that this system hindered the village’s progress and development.

In response to this incident, a case has been registered against Mayur Rajendra Sakhare at the Hinjewadi Police Station under sections 253 and 186 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Authorities are actively conducting further investigations to gather additional details and evidence pertaining to the case.
