Pune: Schools And College Grounds To Serve as Parking Venues During Ganeshotsava
In a bid to address the persistent issue of illegal parking during the Ganesh festival, the Pune City Police’s traffic department has devised a plan to open school and college grounds for parking. This decision comes as a strategic move to mitigate the traffic congestion that plagues the city during the Ganesh festival, which witnesses a significant influx of visitors.
Efforts to Alleviate Traffic Jams
Officials from the traffic department have engaged in discussions with several educational institutions, particularly those located in areas hosting a majority of Ganesh pandals that attract substantial crowds. In a commendable display of community cooperation, many of these institutes have generously offered their grounds for parking without charge. However, some institutions have opted for a fee-based arrangement for parking services.
Addressing Traffic Woes
The Ganesh festival is celebrated with great fervor in Pune, drawing hordes of visitors to the city, particularly to areas like Peth that boast a rich history of celebrations spanning several years. Unfortunately, the surge in visitors during this time often leads to vehicles being parked on the streets, causing severe traffic congestion in the evenings and posing significant challenges for the traffic department tasked with managing the flow of vehicles.
