Education vs. Events: Debate Ensues as Pune Schools and College Close for RSS Meeting

Two Schools And A College In Pune Gets Three-Day Holiday Due To RSS Annual Meeting, Students Organisations Oppose The Move

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is set to conduct its National Annual Coordination Meeting in Pune, spanning three days from September 14 to 16, on the grounds of S.P. College. The preparations for the event, including the installation of a large pavilion, have led to the declaration of a three-day holiday for two schools and one college in the vicinity. However, this decision has sparked opposition from student organizations, particularly members of the Youth Congress.

Concerns Raised by Student Organizations

Student organizations have voiced concerns about the disruption of education due to the holiday declared for these institutions. They argue that alternative venues are available in Pune for such gatherings, which would not affect students’ educational schedules. Moreover, they fear that if such trends continue, it might set a precedent for extended holidays during other events like the ten-day Ganesh festival.

Institutions Affected

The three institutions that have been granted a three-day holiday are Tilak Shikshanshastra College, S.P.M. English Medium School, and the Deaf and Dumb School affiliated with Shikshan Prasarak Mandal.

Administration’s Response

The administration has responded to these concerns by clarifying that additional lectures were conducted to cover the syllabus, ensuring that the students would not experience educational setbacks due to the program-related holidays. Measures have been taken to mitigate the impact on students’ education.

Prominent RSS Leaders in Attendance

The RSS Annual National Coordination Meeting in Pune will witness the participation of prominent RSS leaders, including RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat, Joint General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale, and BJP National President J.P. Nadda. Given the high-profile nature of the event, stringent security arrangements have been put in place across Pune.
