In a significant operation on the Pune-Bengaluru National Highway, Maharashtra’s Sangli district police have cracked down on an illegal liquor operation. They seized a substantial quantity of Goa-made foreign liquor and impounded a truck, with a combined value of Rs 75 lakh.
According to an official press release from the Local Crime Branch (LCB), their personnel executed a meticulously planned operation at Peth Naka in Islampur tehsil, near the Kolhapur-Sangli border. Their vigilance led them to intercept a suspicious-looking truck on the highway. Following a thorough search, the law enforcement officers uncovered an astonishing 48,000 bottles of foreign-made liquor from Goa. The total value of the seized liquor is estimated at a staggering Rs 60 lakh.
Not stopping at confiscating the contraband liquor, the LCB officials also impounded the truck itself, valued at approximately Rs 15 lakh. Furthermore, they apprehended the truck driver, identified as Salman Makandar, hailing from Daflapur in Jat tehsil within Sangli district.
