Capture Life’s Highlights: A Guide to Google Photos’ New Feature

Google Photos, a platform that has steadily gained popularity as a Gallery app replacement on Android smartphones, has introduced a new feature known as ‘Highlight videos.’ This feature enables users to effortlessly convert their cherished memories into captivating video clips, all within the convenience of the Google Photos app.

Initially designed primarily as a photo and video backup solution, Google Photos has evolved into a powerful AI-driven tool, boasting an array of practical features like Magic Eraser and Photo Unblur. Now, alongside these functionalities, Google Photos has rolled out the ability to create ‘Highlight videos’ using a selection of your photos and videos.

Reports suggest that this ‘Highlight videos’ feature has effectively replaced the previous movie maker functionality. It harnesses the power of artificial intelligence to automatically suggest the most suitable clips to include in your video, while also adding fitting soundtracks and syncing visuals with the music.

However, if you prefer a hands-on approach, you can manually customize your videos using the editor, giving you the flexibility to trim and rearrange clips according to your personal preferences.

To make the most of ‘Highlight videos’ in Google Photos, follow these simple steps:

1. Access the Google Photos app and Find the “Sharing” Tab: In the Google Photos app, locate the “Sharing” tab. Right next to it, you’ll spot a new icon represented by a “+” sign.

2. Open the Menu: Tap on this icon to open a menu with various options, including Collage, Album, Animation, Highlight video, and Cinematic Photo.

3. Select Highlight Video: Choose the ‘Highlight video’ option from the menu, which will redirect you to the editor interface.

4. Choose Your Media: Now, select the photos and video clips you wish to include in the video. Allow Google’s AI to work its magic, and it will create a 1-minute clip with preset music for added flair.

5. Manual Editing: After the clip is generated, you’ll be taken back to the editor interface. Here, you have the freedom to manually trim and rearrange clips to align with your preferences.

6. Save or Share: Once you’ve fine-tuned your video, you can choose to save it for personal enjoyment or share it with friends and family.

It’s important to note that the availability of the ‘Highlight videos’ feature is gradually expanding to both Android and iOS versions of the Google Photos app. If you don’t see it, be sure to check for any pending updates. However, there’s currently no information regarding the rollout of this feature on the web version of Google Photos.

In a few simple steps, you can turn your cherished moments into captivating ‘Highlight videos’ with the help of Google Photos’ AI-powered tools.
