Critical Insights: Deputy CM Ajit Pawar Highlights Maharashtra’s Water Dilemma

In a reassuring statement, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar addressed concerns of a potential water shortage in Pune, providing assurance to residents as the new year unfolds.

Speaking at the Circuit House in Pune, Ajit Pawar stated that there is currently no need for Pune residents to worry about water scarcity. He emphasized that the Canal Advisory Committee is set to convene in March to strategize for the upcoming four months—April, May, June, and July. The planning process will consider crucial factors such as dam water levels, water consumption patterns, evaporation rates, and the specific water requirements of Pune residents, especially for drinking purposes.

Acknowledging that there are fewer water reserves compared to the previous year, Pawar highlighted that this challenge extends beyond Pune and is prevalent across Maharashtra. Consequently, ensuring an ample water supply through the end of July is imperative. The Water Resources Department is actively engaged in preparations to meet this demand, according to Pawar.

Moreover, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar shed light on the critical water storage situation in the Marathwada region, resulting in water scarcity affecting 366 villages and 961 settlements. Currently, 389 tankers are actively supplying water to these areas.

As Pune gears up for the upcoming months, Ajit Pawar’s reassurance serves as a timely and vital reminder of the government’s commitment to addressing water-related challenges and ensuring the well-being of its residents.
