In Kharadi, the vision of enjoying life in the towering buildings of the Kharadi IT Park is turning into a nightmare for residents, as mosquito windstorms make it impossible to open balcony doors and disrupt daily activities.
The root of the problem lies in the increased water levels in the riverbed of Kharadi, creating a breeding ground for swarms of mosquitoes. The river stretch from Mundhwa Bridge to Kharadi Gaonthan has witnessed a surge in water levels, prompting the Pune Municipal Corporation to commence water removal efforts just two days ago. However, the urgency of the operation has added to the distress of Kharadi residents.
The mosquito windstorms above the river have hindered residents from enjoying their outdoor spaces, forcing them to keep balcony doors shut to avoid the relentless mosquito onslaught. The situation is particularly dire for the elderly and children in Kharadi, who are restricted from outdoor activities.
A water purification project is underway alongside the small dam on the Mula-Mutha River, and the construction of a new bridge connecting Kharadi is also in progress. However, the excess water has caused a slowdown in the river’s flow, leading to waterlogging and exacerbating the mosquito menace.
Despite the Pune Municipal Corporation’s initiation of the tender process for water removal, the delay in execution has further worsened the situation. The Kharadi riverfront, where clouds of mosquitoes loom, has gained attention on social media platforms as concerned citizens share videos, emphasizing the need for immediate action.
Frustration is mounting among Kharadi residents, who hold the Pune Municipal Corporation accountable for not promptly addressing this crisis and ensuring the well-being of the community.
