Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Nab Two in ₹10 Lakh Fake Currency Scam

Fraudsters Offer Rejected Notes in Exchange for Cash, Victimizes Hotel Industry Professional

The Pimpri-Chinchwad police have apprehended two suspects in connection with a counterfeit currency exchange racket, wherein a victim was swindled of ₹10 lakh in Nigdi. Identified as Akash Shete and Sachin Narwade, the accused perpetrated the fraud by offering rejected currency notes in exchange for cash, leading to a case being filed under IPC Sections 406, 420, and 34.

The fraudulent transaction unfolded on the evening of March 30 at Transport Nagar in Nigdi, as recounted by the victim, Shubham Sonawane, a member of the hotel industry. Sonawane reported that the perpetrators approached him, presenting ₹30 lakh worth of Indian currency notes purportedly rejected by the Currency Note Press in Nashik. Assuring Sonawane that the minor discrepancies in the notes would go unnoticed, the accused proposed exchanging the rejected currency for ₹10 lakh in cash.

Trusting the authenticity of the offer, Sonawane handed over the cash to the fraudsters, only to discover upon closer inspection that he had been deceived by counterfeit currency.

In response to the complaint lodged by Sonawane, the Nigdi Police Station has taken action, initiating a case under pertinent sections of the Indian Penal Code to address the fraudulent activities perpetrated by Shete and Narwade.
